Boycott Nike, Boycott Subway, Boycott Adidas?

At the 2011 BET Awards Michael Vick was awarded Subway's Sportsman of the year . Three days later Nike decided to re-sign Vick.Vick was dropped from Nike after he was charged on April 2007 with an illegal interstate dog fighting ring that had operated over five years.

According to Subway they have nothing to do with Michael Vick's award, but pointed to a BET tweet. BET Awards made this tweet "BET Award Winners are chosen by an independent panel/viewers. Subway had no control in the process & is not associated w/ Michael Vick." I believe Subway's name is attached to the award they had to have some control over the outcome. However Subway has yet to make an official comment.

Nike seems to be backing Vick."Michael acknowledges his past mistakes,” Nike said in a statement. “We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field.”

The issue most people have with Vick is the blatant fact he would of continued the dog fighting if never caught. He has yet to really express how deeply sorry he is for his past. You can't force someone to be a role model if they don't want to be. Vick was never a role model he did more then just fight those dogs he tortured and killed them. Most animal abusers eventually move on from animals to humans. One thing that Vick did that did help our society was get caught. He did bring awareness on how big dog fighting can get and how heartless those who fight them are. I believe in second chances, but if Vick was any other guy he sure would not have his original job. Vick should not even be working at the NFL at all.  However his second chance got him to be paid millions.

The issue I have with Nike is not only because they resigned Vick, but because they still operate sweatshops.

If you need a reason on why Adidas should be boycotted here is one:

"Each year, millions of kangaroos are killed in what is widely regarded as the largest wildlife massacre on the planet.
Shockingly, the number one supporters of this barbaric trade are sports shoe manufacturers, who purchase the skins and turn them into football boots. Adidas, one of the industry’s biggest customers, is a major driving force behind the industry.
In 2006, David Beckham, who is paid millions of pounds to promote Adidas products switched to synthetics after years of wearing kangaroo football boots. This was, in part, due to Viva!'s campaign. Read more about it here. However, despite Beckham's change of heart Adidas continues to make many other football boots out of kangaroo leather."

"Every person can make a massive difference to global conservation. Simply never purchase wildlife - including kangaroo - products!" Steve Irwin, Australian wildlife expert and TV presenter.
