Why I no longer drink bottled water and why I think bottled water is not safe!
I have deiced to do my best to not buy or drink out of bottled water. Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year.
"Despite the marketing, bottled water is not safer than tap water. In fact, tap water is subject to more stringent regulation that bottled water. Tap water is regulated by the EPA, while bottled water is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.  Perpetually under-funded and short-staffed, FDA has a poor record of protecting consumer health and safety. FDA sends inspectors to bottling plants once every two to three years." -Click Here For More.
Finigo a Canadian Company posted a really good article about plastic. They made a list and #5 on the list  is what made me see something is up
"5. Avoid plastic bottled water (unless you’re traveling or live in an area where the quality of water is questionable). Because it is less regulated, bottled water has less certain purity and safety than tap water, and is much more expensive. If you’re worried about tap water quality, consider installing a home water filter or use an inexpensive filter pitcher. " Their list goes into more detail on why, you can view that list Here!
I have also learned that the bottle water you buy is bottled in the same state you buy it from. Some water is just filtered tap water and some are from springs. "Some of Deer Park's Pennsylvania springs are found in LeHigh Valley along the Blue Mountain. Spring water is taken from water sources in Bangor, New Tripoli , South Coventry and Stroudsburg.
Schuylkill County houses the Schuylkill River that starts in the Appalachian Mountains.
Spring water in this county comes from Hegins and Pine Grove. Nearer the Poconos, Monroe County water sources used by Nestle sit in the town of Stroudsburg. Finally, springs in South Coventry are in Chester County, part of the Delaware Valley."Click Here For Article.
According to Clean Water Not Dirty Drilling org.A Pennsylvania hunting club claims that leakage form nearby gas drilling in Pennsylvania's Marcellus shale formation has polluted a popular natural spring.
"From this story in the Pittsburg Post-Gazette:
Spring water, cold as winter and clear as a windowpane, gushes out of mossy ground in a clearing sprinkled with blooms of forget-me-not next to Stone Camp, the home of the Sykesville Hunting Club in the Moshannon State Forest. The bubbling flow has attracted generations of folks from Clearfield County and beyond, but staked into the ground now is a homemade sign bearing the warning: "Contaminated Water." The sign seems out of place. Larry Righi certainly thinks so, even though he had a hand in putting it up months after a torn liner under one or more EOG Resources Marcellus Shale drill cuttings pits allowed leakage that contaminated groundwater feeding the spring almost two years ago.
Mr. Righi, a longtime member of the local landmark Sykesville Hunting Club like his father before him, hopes new water test results will soon give a clean bill of health to the spring, which is the club's only water source."
So this article had me thinking. How do we know truthfully that Fracking Waste spills into wells and around wells are not finding a way to our Natural Springs?
What also solidified my decision on why water bottles are no good, is the documentary known as Tapped!
After watching this documentary, after learning about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, I have come to the conclusion that Water Bottles are hazardous to the environment and could possibly effect our health. So if there is a possibility it could effect our health, it most likely does.
So if you still want to drink out of plastic water bottles just remember, bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year. That waste most likely ends up in the ocean effecting our planet and wildlife.
