Horses in America are not raised for slaughter. They are raised as pets and used for entertainment. One reason horse slaughter was originally stopped in the U.S was due to Bute. Bute is a pain killer that effects equine meat. Bute never leaves the horses system and if anyone consumed equine meat with bute in it they will become very sick and could also die.  Equine slaughter in the U.S was also stopped due to poor regulations and inhumane treatment of the horses. Equine meat is also no longer put into pet food. However horse slaughter still remains to be an issue in the U.S because it is not fully banned and there are various illegal slaughter plants with in the U.S.
Please take the time to tell congress you support this bill here.
Please take the time to contact your local representatives and ask them to support The American Horses Slaughter Prevention Act of 2011
