EarthQuake shakes the U.S

8/23/2011 2pm I went through my very first earthquake. This quake was strong enough to shake the entire house. Even though I never been through an earthquake before I knew at that moment we were having one. This quake was strong enough to be felt as far as Canada.Some buildings have been damaged.

The earthquake was centered in Mineral, Virginia, which is 92 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake was initially reported at 5.8 magnitude.
The quake had a very shallow depth of 0.6 miles.
The Pentagon and Capitol Building in Washington were evacuated, as were courthouses in New York City. The earthquake sent Washington office workers scurrying into the streets.
A Reuters witness said the quake was felt as far away as Toronto, Canada.



BBC-The quake hit at 1351 local time (1751 GMT) at a depth of 3.7 miles (6km), the US Geological Survey said.It said the quake was centred some 9 miles from the town of Mineral, in the state of Virginia. An initial measurement of 5.8 was later upgraded.
The quake was felt in Washington, where the Pentagon and US Capitol Building were evacuated, as well as in New York.
